What are Stackable Washers & Dryers?
A stackable washer and dryer pair are separate washer and dryer units. The washer is placed at the bottom of the configuration as it can vibrate and shift more often in operation, creating a solid foundation. Bosch's compact design allows for this stackable setup that helps save floor space in your laundry area.
The possible downsides to a Stackable Washer & Dryer
Limited to just one brand
One downside to a stackable washer and dryer configuration is the inability to mix and match brands. These washers and dryers are meant to fit perfectly on top of each other and mixing brands could cause installation issues. You will also need a brand specific stacking kit to keep your units secured to each other and prevent motion/vibration when in use.
Limited layouts for your laundry room
Stackable units offer a much smaller footprint, however they require a specific cutout to accommodate the space. They also require a very specific layout for your laundry room, depending on the door configurations of your laundry set and where your plumbing is set up.
More expensive installation
Installing stackable washer and dryer units can be much more difficult and unsafe to install on your own, as you are lifting a heavy dryer on the top of a washing machine. This may require professional assistance that comes at a price.
More diffifuclt to clean and maintain
The dryer should be checked frequently to make sure that moisture from the washer is not being transferred over. Since the dryer needs to be on top of the washer, the height off the ground can be a challenge. It is recommended to keep your washer door open to prevent molding, which may also be difficult to maintain with a stackable setup.
