Our grandmothers had a very effective way to clean rugs: wait for snow, carry the rug outside, place it on the snow upside down and give it some good hits with the carpet beater. The snow would clean the rug, the dust would stay outside, and grandma was happy. Even though this is an effective method, nowadays it is not really realisable – especially in times like these: we spend more time at home than ever before. And with more people staying home, there is more dirt and more cleaning necessary than ever before, particularly when kids are around. A challenge – especially for allergy sufferers.

It’s high time to implement an effective and regular vacuuming routine to get rid of dust and to make sure that floors, surfaces, and also the indoor air we breathe stay hygienically clean.

Basic tips to get you started:

1. Tidy up all rooms so you don’t need to move too many things out of the way when vacuuming.
2. Vacuum one room after the other.
3. Start in one corner of the room and from there move towards the door.
4. Vacuum rooms that you spend more time in more often during the week. Vacuum all rooms on the weekend.
5. Don’t forget the spots underneath beds and small corners.

A) Using the vacuum cleaner is the easiest option to remove dust. Vacuum floors and carpets regularly to reduce dust from the beginning. When using a vacuum cleaner, make sure it is equipped with at least a HEPA filter (high efficiency particulate air). What’s even better is the Ultra Allergy filter implemented in many of our Bosch ProHygienic vacuum cleaners . The Ultra Allergy hygienic filter eliminates 99,99% of air particles resulting in exhaust air cleaner than the regular air* at home. This is especially important for people with a house dust allergy.

B) Clean from top to bottom – starting with tops of doors and cabinets, windows and shelves, continuing with upholstery and beds and finishing with carpets and floors.

C) When vacuuming, don’t forget corners and hidden places. That’s where the dust gathers and multiplies. Also, move the vacuum cleaner slowly across the floor. This way, the appliance gets all the dust and you don’t have to move across the same spot for several times.

D) Finally, wipe floors with a damp cloth to remove persistent dirt. The same applies for dusting shelves. The duster only stirs up particles and does not remove them.

How to effectively remove dust from doors and shelves.

To remove dust from narrow, uneven surfaces, we recommend using small nozzles. They help to remove dust from the top of doors, books on shelves, and all other areas that are hard to reach.

Mites love the climate in your bed. To make them feel uncomfortable, shake pillows and blankets every morning and let the mattress air by leaving it uncovered for at least 20 minutes after getting up. Vacuuming the mattress every now and again helps you get rid of some of the little buggers – and, of course, also of cookie and popcorn crumbs. You can use special nozzles which gently treat textiles surfaces of mattresses and upholstery. For allergy sufferers, it is best to use a special encasing to make mites stay inside the mattress. By the way: when vacuuming upholstery and mattresses, make sure to reduce the suction power to not damage the fabric.

In the end, it’s also important to give some care to your vacuum cleaner in order for it to function perfectly and make your home dust-free.

A) Nozzles
Take good care of nozzles. Dust mostly gathers in nozzles with an included brush. You can use warm (not hot) water and optional baby shampoo to clean it. A comb with fine teeth helps remove hair from brushes. In case there is hair wrapped around the brush, you can simply use scissors to cut it off along the cutting edge

B) Dust bags and boxes
Depending on the size of your home, the amount of dirt, and how often you vacuum, the time until your dust bag or box is filled may vary. When it comes to changing the bag and emptying the box: the more often the better as mites multiply in the dusty environment. When emptying dust boxes, do so right into the trash outside the house to make sure the dust stays out there.

Make the vacuum cleaner a perfect match.

How can healthy, hygienic and safe cleaning be possible despite allergies? Finding a vacuum cleaner that suits your needs is key. People with allergies can choose a model with a dust bag. This is essential to make sure dust remains sealed when changing the bag. Using a model with a HEPA or an Ultra Allergy filter for cleaner exhaust air is recommendable.

Especially during the past year, the interest in hygiene at home has grown – not only among people with allergies. We’ve become more sensitive when it comes to protecting our homes from viruses, germs, and dust. However, it is almost impossible to remove every single pathogen at home. Nevertheless, it is indeed possible to have a feeling of spotless cleanliness at home: Bosch ProHygienic vacuum cleaners efficiently clean the air along with the floor. Thanks to the special filtration system, the exhaust air is cleaner than the regular indoor air – for more hygiene at home, with no compromises on performance.

Well, now you’re set for your ideal vacuum routine to keep air and floors clean. Bosch ProHygienic means a new hygiene in the household without the use of chemicals.
