Go bananas with this quick and easy healthy ice cream alternative!

Americans throw away 103 pounds of spoiled food from their fridge every single year. Did you know that bananas hold the coveted spot for top foods that spoil the fastest? In addition to using ripe bananas to make banana bread, transform the fruit into a healthy—and festive—summer treat. Pro Tip: replace wooden ice cream sticks with a chocolate stick for a fun twist.

Ingredients

6 wooden ice cream sticks

3 ripe bananas

3/4 cup of cooking chocolate (choose dark or milk depending on taste)

Toppings to suit (i.e. chopped almonds, grated coconut, sprinkles)

Instructions

Step 1

Peel and halve the bananas and push a stalk or a chopstick in each half.

Step 2

Place the banana halves on a cutting board and freeze them for about three hours.

Step 3

Melt the chocolate (preferably in the water bath) and spread the toppings on grease-proof paper.

Step 4

Dip each of the bananas into the melted chocolate and quickly roll them into your chosen toppings.

Step 5

Allow to cool and enjoy or simply freeze them.
