Whether you're savoring a smooth red wine or enjoying the crispness of sparkling mineral water, nothing enhances your drinking experience like crystal-clear glasses. With Bosch dishwashers, we go the extra mile to ensure your glassware retains its sparkle. However, over time, your glasses may develop a cloudy or milky appearance. Don't worry; we're here to help you restore their brilliance.
Preserve the brilliance: Tips to keep your glasses pristine.
Special moments are often cherished with a fine glass of wine, surrounded by loved ones. To perfectly cap off your evening with pristine glasses, Bosch dishwashers provide exceptional care. However, with frequent use, your glasses may lose their luster. One common issue is glass corrosion, a form of damage that cannot be reversed. This occurs when the surface of the glass is gradually eroded. Factors such as poor glass quality, very soft dishwasher water, high temperatures, and extended program cycles contribute to this problem. Explore the following tips to safeguard your glasses from corrosion and preserve their elegance.
When it comes to taking care of delicate glasses and avoiding glass corrosion, the level of water hardness is an important factor: If the water is too soft, mineral nutrients from the surface of the glasses will dissolve. You can check the website of your water provider to find out the general water hardness in your area. Alternatively, you can easily determine the exact water hardness level in your house using water hardness test strips. This will allow you to select the correct descaling setting for your dishwasher and protect your glasses from the damage done by low pH levels.
Your Bosch dishwasher adds a rinse aid during the last rinse of a standard cycle. This reduces the surface tension of the rinse water and ensures not only that water drains optimally from your glasses for brilliant and spotless drying results, but also neutralises soap residue and prevents deposits of lime scale.
To prevent your precious glasses from cracking, clean them softly and gently with the program delicate 40°. This way, you ensure optimal care and protection and perfectly hygienic results at a low temperature, at just the touch of a button – to enjoy a lot more nice evenings with your friends or family.
Take extra care of your delicate wine glasses: Long-stemmed glasses are held securely in place with our specially developed Glass Secure Tray which gives your delicate glasses extra hold and the highest attainable protection for your crystal glasses. By fixing your glasses and loading the dishwasher properly, you can avoid dishes or glasses tumbling over during the washing cycle and breaking.
Milky glasses often result from either glass corrosion (as discussed before) or lime scale buildup. Lime scale occurs when hard water is not adequately softened. The good news is that lime scale is removable with some home remedies.
Grandma knows best – at least when it comes to white vinegar and its magical impact on lime scale. Here’s how: pour some vinegar into a flat bowl, place it in your dishwasher, put the glasses in your dishwasher and use a normal cleaning program, without adding any detergent. Because detergent is alkaline, it neutralises the acidity of the vinegar, which is why this cycle is best run without it. For persistent stains, put your glasses in a bowl of warm water and vinegar and let them soak for a while before starting the procedure described above.
Lemon juice is good for preventing lime scale and leaves a fresh, pleasant scent in your dishwasher. The secret ingredient in lemon is an acid that literally fights and dissolves lime scale. It’s as easy as this: cut a lemon in half, place it in your cutlery basket and run the dishwasher. Leave the detergent out this washing cycle and let the lemon work its magic. Persistent stains can be removed by rubbing the lemon directly on the glass. The result will be fresh and clean.
Toothpaste is a true hands-on method for removing lime scale from your glasses. Unlike white vinegar or lemon juice, toothpaste doesn’t work inside the dishwasher but it’s still very effective. Use a simple white toothpaste rather than a gel, put it on the affected areas of your glasses and polish them with a soft damp cloth. By the way, this life hack works well on your bathroom fittings, too.
Rinse aid acts as a surface-active agent, reducing the surface tension of the water. This, in turn, allows the water to run off the dishes more efficiently. In areas with hard water, the use of rinse aid is particularly beneficial as it helps prevent water spots, such as those on glasses, plates, and cutlery, ensuring they emerge with a gleaming shine. Additionally, it accelerates the drying process of the dishes.
Lime scale occurs when hard water isn’t softened sufficiently, but it can be prevented. Find out more about the water quality in your area with our water hardness test strips and set the water softening unit accordingly – usually via the programme selector. Add salt regularly and use the correct amount of rinsing aid in every washing cycle.
Limescale buildup is often the culprit behind the persistent white film on your dishes or glassware. This problem is especially prevalent in areas with hard water, where the water may not be adequately softened, or the appliance hasn't undergone proper descaling. Hard water contains a high concentration of dissolved minerals, primarily magnesium and calcium, and neglecting maintenance can result in potential damage to various components of the appliance.
