Warm, fragrant and effortlessly elegant, these marzipan-stuffed baked apples turn simple fruit into a cozy dessert. Apples are filled with sweet almond marzipan and warming spices, baked until tender and caramelized, then finished with a drizzle of syrup or cream — perfect served warm with vanilla ice cream or custard for holiday dinners or an easy, comforting treat.

Ingredients

4 servings:

4 large apples

4 oz marzipan

1 1/2 tbsp rum

1/3 cup sultanas

1/2 cup almond slivers

4 tsp apricot jam

2 tbsp brown sugar

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 1/2 tbsp butter

Vanilla sauce for serving

Instructions

Step 1

Ingredients: 4 large apples

Utensils: oven | cutting board | knife

Preheat oven to 180°C/355°F. Remove core from the apples.

Ingredients: 4 oz marzipan | 2 cl rum | 1/3 cup sultanas | 1/2 cup almond slivers | 4 tsp apricot jam

Utensils: wooden spoon | large bowl

In a large bowl, combine marzipan, rum, sultanas, almond slivers, and apricot jam.

Step 3

Stuff apples with the mixture.

Step 4

Ingredients: 1 1/2 tbsp butter

Utensils: casserole dish

Place apples in a casserole dish. Dot the apples with butter.

Step 5

Ingredients: 2 tbsp brown sugar | 1/2 tsp cinnamon | vanilla sauce for serving

Utensils: wooden spoon | oven | small bowl

In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon and generously sprinkle the apples with the sugar mixture. In a preheated oven, bake apples 180°C/355° for approx. 20 – 30 min. Serve with warm vanilla sauce.
