To decide which appliance suits you best, it’s worth looking at your needs. If you often make patties for burgers, love meatballs, steak tartar, falafel or hummus, if you’re a fan of home-made sausages and freshly grated vegetables, then food mincers are your answer. Kitchen machines , on the other hand, are first and foremost experts at baking, preparing dough, whisking cream etc., and they can also be fitted with accessories for mincing and shredding. A blender or a hand blender can also chop food expertly, or help you prepare dips and soups. However, these appliances don’t include accessories for sausage making or preparing traditional Kebbe, and tend to be less powerful. Of course there are manual meat mincers, too. A great cost-effective option, if you don’t process large batches of food very often.

Another point to look out for is the ‘output per minute’. It tells you how many kilos per minute the machine can process, giving you an indication of the appliance’s power. Many models also allow you to choose between 2 different speeds to suit different tasks (e.g. higher for mincing meat, lower for shredding vegetables). The reverse function is also handy, as it helps release any food that might get stuck.

Aside from the mincing function, all Bosch food mincers feature a number of shredder discs or barrels to grate fruit and vegetables and, depending on your chosen model, they are also available with a sausage maker and a Kebbe attachment. Some models can be fitted with a juice press, a citrus press or even a cookie cutter.
