In 2010, detergent manufacturers removed phosphates from all of their dishwashing products in response to state laws banning phosphate-containing detergents. Many consumers are not aware of this detergent change and sometimes notice a white film on their dishware after using their dishwasher. Here are some tips for optimizing the effectiveness of your phosphate-free detergent:
We recommend powder, tablets or tabs. Tabs generally perform slightly better than powder formulations. However, powder formulations offer the flexibility to change the quantity used in the dishwasher. For example, one may add more or less powder to the dishwasher depending on load size, water hardness and/or the cycle selected.
Using rinse aid helps water slide off dishware effectively in the final rinse and reduces the likelihood of spotting or streaking. If your detergent tablet already has rinse aid in it, it may still be helpful to add rinse aid to your dishwasher’s rinse aid dispenser. For persistent spotting on your dishware, increase the amount of rinse aid that your dishwasher dispenses. For streaks, decrease the amount. Please refer to your Use & Care Guide to learn how to do this.
Here are some tips for washing dishes in hard water:
If possible, use a household water softener to soften the water used in your home.
Purchase a dishwasher that holds water softener, such as our 800 Plus series dishwashers.
Utilize a dishwashing additive (such as FINISH® PowerUp® Boost) that cleans hard water film and spots. These additives are used in addition to the detergent. PowerUp® Boost can be purchased in the Bosch Accessories & Parts Store (part number 00575403).
