Rated 1 out of 5 by from exact problems as others are reportingThis was the appliance in the brand new house I purchased. Within 6 months we had to start slamming the door in order for it to work. We had the microwave repaired and 11 months later, the same problem has started again. Very frustrating for such a "high end" appliance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from NOT a built-in microwave. We got this (as well as a Bosch dishwasher, gas cooktop and electric oven) when we completely remodeled our house in 2007. First, and foremost, this is NOT a built in microwave. It is a countertop unit with a metal bracket glued to the top & side (as seen in pic), which is hidden by the vent covers when it is installed. It was our main kitchen microwave (it was installed above our regular oven) for 7 years, with no technical issues whatsoever. We had a house fire in 2014, at which time the undamaged unit was removed and that's when it was discovered that, as mentioned above, it's actually a countertop model. It was put in storage for about a year. Our house was completely rebuilt and we ended up keeping this unit as a second microwave in our guest room. So, this microwave is now nearly a decade old and still works perfectly, even after surviving a house fire.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Bosch MicrowaveI bought this microwave in November 2013 and within 2 years the main board went bad and with lot of hassle dealing with Bosch, got it repaired. More than six technician visits and repair cost too. Now again it's not working, looks like the same issue. Very disappointed with this purchase.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very poor quality - constant problemsWe have had nothing but problems with this microwave (and the matching Bosch oven and the Bosch warmer). The microwave door wouldn't latch properly. 50% of the time, it won't start cooking. Has to be opened and shut again, often multiple times to get it to cook. Finally there was a flash, a bang and microwave has stopped working completely. It's only a couple of years old. Poor quality. Constant time-wasting source of annoyance. I wish we had listened to our contractor and bought a different brand.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Need to slam door on HMB5050 Bosch MicrowaveAlmost all our new appliances purchased for our custom built home in February 2013 were Bosch units, including the HBM5050 built-in Bosch stainless steel microwave. Just when the first year of use approached the microwave door began to have problems closing properly. It required a very hard slamming in order to close so the unit would operate. As time passed the problem became more pronounced. Now, in order to close the door so its locked and the unit will operate it necessary to lift up the door at the bottom corner, with one hand (when the door is up against the frame of the unit), and then place the palm of the other hand up against the door window and then perform a very, very hard, forceful pushing action and then..just maybe... the door will close and sometimes lock. Many times it wont lock, however, even though its "closed". That it isn't locked is known because the unit will not operate when the desired time is selected and the start button is depressed. The light will be one indicating that the door, although "closed" is not securely closed. Another quick pushing action with the palm of the hand against the door window is required...only then will the unit FINALLY perform its intended function! **MY WIFE AND I ARE THE ONLY MEMBERS OF THE HOME; our older sons are on their own and have been prior to the time we moved into our new home in February 2013. So, the unit does not get much use, either.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Three years of slamming door repeatedlyI wish when I had purchased this four years ago all these reviews had been written. It sounds like my two issues are known issues: for years we slammed the door to get it to turn on, and recently it started shutting off after just a few seconds of power. Hopefully they have fixed these issues in newer models? Does anyone from Bosch respond to product reviews?
